Best Nano Banana Photoshop Plugins: 2026 Shortlist

· 19 min read
Astria Team
AI fashion production

Our pick is the Astria Nano Banana plugin for Photoshop. It is the one panel on this list that puts every current model in front of a retoucher at once: GPT Image 2 with a mask, Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro, Seedream 5 and 5 Pro, and Flux 2 Pro. The model list is served by the Astria platform, so it updates itself when a model launches, with no plugin update to install. Results land as Smart Objects at the model's full returned resolution. Use hosted billing or bring your own Google key.

Three other buyers have a better fit. Use Adobe's native Generative Fill picker if you never leave Adobe's models and your plan has credits to spare. Use a bring-your-own-key panel if you refuse hosted billing on principle. Use Creator MAX if "no third-party server in the path" matters more to you than anything else.

This shortlist is published by Astria. Every competitor fact below comes from that vendor's public pages, reviewed September 13, 2026, and each entry says who should buy it instead of us.

First, work out which category you are buying

"Nano Banana Photoshop plugin" now describes seven different products. Most disappointing purchases in this space are category errors, not product failures: a retoucher buys a Gemini-only script and then needs GPT Image's mask, or subscribes to a tool suite and then wants to pick the model. Decide the category first.

(a) Photoshop's native Generative Fill picker. Since Photoshop 27.0, the Generative Fill bar has a model picker. As of September 2026 it lists Firefly, Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro, FLUX.2 pro and FLUX.1 Kontext. Partner-model use follows the current terms of your Creative Cloud plan. Nothing to install, one bill, and Firefly output carries Adobe's commercial-safety badge. Partner output does not. Check Adobe's current terms before budgeting a job.

(b) Hosted-credit or hybrid panels. The vendor hosts the billing, so you never open a Google Cloud account. Astria, Pablo, AI Lab UXP, Origin AI, Review Spaces and Varo Koneko sit here. Astria and Pablo also accept your own key, which makes them hybrids.

(c) Brand-subscription plugins with no model choice. Higgsfield and Magnific (formerly Freepik) ship Photoshop panels that expose tools, not models: relight, expand, remove background, upscale. The vendor picks the model behind each tool, and you need the vendor's subscription.

(d) BYOK-only panels. You buy the panel and paste your own Google, OpenAI, xAI, Replicate, fal or Kie.ai key. Medicraft's Nano Banana Generative Fill, Creator MAX, Cubby Image, Prompt Fix, Eti Image, NanoBridge, PhosGen, Erect Banana and Michael Breitung's Gemini AI Photoshop Plugin all work this way. Every generation needs a provider account configured under that provider's current terms.

(e) Legacy JSX scripts. AI Vision Plugin and several Gumroad scripts run as ExtendScript: a modal dialog rather than a panel, often routed through Replicate. Their genuine merit is that they run on Photoshop versions the UXP panels cannot. The Astria plugin's own lineage started as a JSX script; legacy users can move to the CCX build, and the old script still supports Replicate-backed workflows.

(f) Open-source ComfyUI bridges. comfyui-photoshop, OpenLayer and ComfyPanel connect a UXP panel to a local ComfyUI graph. Free, local models, no per-image bill, your GPU and your maintenance. The right answer for a power user who already runs ComfyUI.

(g) Web canvases outside Photoshop. Magnific's web app, Higgsfield, Krea, Leonardo, Dzine and Figma all run Nano Banana with a mask. You do the edit there, export a flat file, and lose the layers, the Smart Object and the selection you spent ten minutes building. Fine for a one-off. Wrong for a retoucher with a layered PSD.

The best Nano Banana Photoshop plugins at a glance

Nine products that a retoucher would actually shortlist, one per category where a category has a clear leader. "Not publicly verified" means the vendor's public material does not state it and we did not run the product.

The shortlist, one paragraph each

Astria Nano Banana plugin for Photoshop: our pick. Three things decide it. First, the panel's model list is served by the Astria platform, so a model added to Astria appears in the panel the day it launches, with no plugin update or re-download. Second, the rebuilt CCX/UXP panel runs a three-step workflow: select, prompt, generate. Mask-aware models read the selection directly, and reference images act as visual instructions. Third, each generation is placed as a Smart Object holding the model's full returned resolution, so a high-resolution result placed into a small selection can be re-transformed later without resampling. One Astria key authenticates the hosted models, or a Google AI Studio key can run Gemini models. GPT Image 2 with a mask and Seedream 5 Pro are two models Adobe does not offer inside Photoshop. The same key and balance drive Astria workspaces, templates and the API. Current terms are on the Astria pricing page. No GPU is needed. Setup is covered in the Nano Banana Photoshop guide.

Adobe Generative Fill with partner models. The genuine strength is zero install and one Adobe account. Nano Banana Pro arrived the day Google launched it, and Nano Banana 2 followed in Photoshop 27.6 with several reference images. FLUX.2 pro and FLUX.1 Kontext sit beside Firefly. The ceiling is model breadth and published output detail. Partner models return one variation per generate, Adobe does not publish their returned dimensions, GPT Image lives only in the Firefly web app, and Seedream is absent from Adobe's stack. Full comparison.

Pablo. The closest like-for-like: a hosted UXP panel with agency licensing, published rates, and optional Google or Replicate keys. The roster spans Nano Banana, Seedream 4.x, and GPT Image variants. Its genuine strength is transparent pricing and centralized seats. The ceiling for a retoucher: Seedream 5 is not listed as of September 2026, returned resolution and layer type are not publicly documented, and there is no production platform behind the key. Full comparison.

Nano Banana Generative Fill (Medicraft, on aescripts). Gemini-only, using your own Google key. Its genuine strengths are support for older Photoshop versions, an edge-feather helper, a prompt library and recordability as Actions. The ceiling: one model family and no hosted path, so generation depends on a configured Google billing account. Full comparison.

Eti Image (Pouya Eti). The widest roster of any panel here, spanning Seedream, Nano Banana, GPT Image, Flux, Qwen and WAN, plus Magnific tools and several upscalers. It runs several models in parallel on one selection. The ceiling: you bring and fund Replicate, Kie.ai and Google keys, plus a Magnific key for its tools, and returned resolution is not publicly verified. Full comparison.

Creator MAX (formerly Banana MAX). The feature-richest BYOK panel: Nano Banana, GPT Image and xAI Grok Imagine, with Lock Edges inpainting, grouped variations, reference images, usage history, a spend dashboard, Actions and multi-document support. It uses your own Google, OpenAI and xAI keys, and the vendor states it does not proxy prompts or images. The ceiling: no Seedream, no Flux and no hosted path. Full comparison.

AI Lab UXP (Picture Instruments). A subscription with vendor-hosted tokens and no keys, covering a standalone app as well as the panel. Models include Nano Banana, GPT Image, Flux and Seedream families. The genuine strength is that usage is shown before each generation. The ceiling: it is a subscription, there is no BYOK path, Seedream 5 is not listed, and layer behaviour is not publicly verified. Check the vendor page for current plan terms.

Higgsfield Plugin for Photoshop. A different product: tools, not models. Angles, Mockup Studio, Expand, Remove BG and Relight, plus layer decomposition, face and character swap, upscaling and skin enhancement, all on Higgsfield's cloud with a Higgsfield account, on Photoshop 2024+. Its genuine strength is that an existing Higgsfield subscriber gets a lot of tool breadth at no extra cost. The ceiling: you cannot pick the model, individual-plan credits reset every billing cycle, and there is no BYOK.

Magnific plugin for Photoshop. The plugin needs a paid Magnific plan. Tools cover generate, reframe, relight, upscale, background removal, skin and stock. The genuine strength is upscale and relight inside the panel for someone already subscribed. The ceiling: Magnific chooses the model for each tool, and the panel does not preview usage before a run. Check Magnific's pricing page for current terms.

Why the model list matters more than the model count

A Photoshop panel is a thin thing. Its value is whatever sits behind the Generate button today, and that changes monthly. Three examples from this year. Google's pricing page marks the original Nano Banana (gemini-2.5-flash-image) as deprecated, with a shutdown on October 2, 2026, and Adobe removed it from the Generative Fill picker in Photoshop 27.11. Flux Kontext was retired from the Astria panel in favour of Flux 2 Pro and the mask-aware GPT Image 2. And GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and Flare and Muse Image are already on Astria's platform as of September 13, 2026; Pablo's pricing page also lists GPT Image 2.5. For scale, Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro only reached general availability on Google's API in May 2026, and Nano Banana 2 Lite followed on June 30.

Two designs handle this differently. A panel that ships models as releases needs the vendor to write code, publish an update and get you to re-download it before a new model is usable. That is every BYOK panel by construction, because a new provider means new authentication code. Several of the Exchange listings we reviewed have one release and no ratings; a vendor in that state does not ship the next provider. A panel that reads its roster from a platform gets the model when the platform gets it, and the platform's business depends on getting it early. That is the Astria plugin's design.

So "six models" is the wrong number to compare, and so is "27". The question is which models the panel will have next March, and who has to do what to get them.

How to run the evaluation

Buy nothing on a feature list. One afternoon and one PSD settle it.

One PSD, one selection, one prompt, one reference. Pick a real job: a campaign hero where the shoes must be swapped from a reference image, the background extended for a 4:5 crop, and a phone removed from a hand. Save the selection as a channel so every panel gets the identical mask, and use the same short prompt and the same reference each time.

Check the returned pixel dimensions and the layer type. After each generation, look at what arrived. Is it a Smart Object or flattened pixels? Double-click it: are the embedded pixels the model's full output, or were they resampled to the selection size? A 4K result that arrives at selection size cannot be recovered later, and that matters the day the client asks for the crop to move.

Run it on the cheap model first. Nano Banana 2 at 1K is where most panels look fine. Then run Nano Banana Pro at 4K, GPT Image 2 with the mask, and Seedream 5 Pro where offered. The gap between panels opens at the top of the range, not the bottom.

Force a timeout. Run a 4K generation on a large selection and watch what the panel does when the upstream provider is slow. Does it retry, report, or charge and show nothing? Upstream providers time out, and every hosted panel, ours included, has to handle that in front of you.

Cost a month of your real volume on each billing model. Count last month's fills, including rejects, and apply each vendor's current rates to the same model, resolution, retry rate, and seat count. Use the live Astria pricing page and each competitor's pricing page rather than fixed figures copied into an article.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Nano Banana Photoshop plugin?

For a retoucher who wants every current model in one panel, the Astria Nano Banana plugin for Photoshop is our pick. It runs GPT Image 2, Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro, Seedream 5 and 5 Pro and Flux 2 Pro on one key, new models appear without a plugin update, and each result is placed as a Smart Object at the model's full returned resolution. Adobe's native picker fits people who never leave Adobe's models, and a bring-your-own-key panel fits people who refuse hosted billing.

Is the Nano Banana Photoshop plugin free?

No. The Astria plugin uses a paid licence and bills hosted generation separately, or you can connect a Google AI Studio key for Gemini models. Check the Astria pricing page and Google's pricing page for current terms.

Does Photoshop have Nano Banana built in?

Yes. Since Photoshop 27.x, Generative Fill has a model picker with Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro, FLUX.2 pro and FLUX.1 Kontext alongside Firefly. Partner-model usage follows the current terms of your Creative Cloud plan. GPT Image is only in the Firefly web app, and Seedream is not in Adobe's stack.

Can I use my Gemini subscription with a Photoshop plugin?

No. Google only authorises external apps through API keys, so a consumer Gemini subscription cannot power any plugin. Bring-your-own-key panels need a Google AI Studio key with billing enabled. Hosted panels such as Astria and Pablo let you skip Google billing and pay the panel per image instead.

Is this shortlist independent?

No. It is published by Astria and recommends the Astria plugin as the overall pick. Every competitor fact comes from that vendor's public pages and is listed in the sources section, no competitor product was purchased or run, and each entry names the buyer for whom it is the better purchase.
